Established in 2013, The Human Brain Project (HBP) is a European Commission Future and Emerging Technologies Flagship that aims to accelerate our understanding of the human brain, make advances in the pathophysiological comprehension diagnosis brain disorders, and develop new brain-like technologies.
Federating more than thousand European and international research institutions, the HBP associates specialists in cognitive sciences, neurosciences, molecular biology, medicine, physical sciences, mathematics, science computing and ethics, an essential interdisciplinary approach because brain is complex and it necessary to describe it at several levels (genetics, synapsis or cell) and in various anatomical scales.
The HBP is a large 10-year scientific research project, coordinated by Henry Markram and Philippe Gillet (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne).
