Talk from
Ines Violante – School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King's College London
Short abstract:
Brain rhythms are associated with fundamentalprocesses, from sleep to cognitive functions. Targeted approaches that canshape oscillatory activity are needed to understand the mechanisms by whichspecific rhythms relate to brain function and for clinical interventions.
During this talk, I will present our recentstudies focusing on Temporal interference (TI) electrical stimulation to targetdeep brain structures. Here I will talk about our efforts in translating the TIconcept to humans and discuss how TI stimulation may represent a new method ofbrain stimulation using familiar and well-tested electric fields, but able toachieve focal deep stimulation without neurosurgery. I will also present our effortsto modulate sleep dynamics combining multi-modal strategies and closed-loopstimulation.
