The Institute of cellular and molecular radiobiology (IRCM) develops basic and applied research on the mechanisms of DNA repair and genome stability maintenance, tissue regeneration and cancer. It aims to decipher the molecular, cellular and tissular effects of ionizing radiation and radionuclides and the development of associated pathologies in order to improve their prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment. One of the major goals of iRCM teams is thus to propose new strategies to improve cancer treatment by increasing the efficiency of radiotherapy and preserving healthy tissues.

To this end, iRCM teams use various cell models, organoids, as well as preclinical models and benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, which are open to external teams. They develop both national and international academic collaborations and private partnerships.

The iRCM is located at three sites south of Paris: Fontenay-aux Roses, Bruyères-le-Châtel and Evry. It is composed of more than 130 researchers, engineers, technicians and students from CEA, Université Paris Cité, Université Paris-Saclay and Inserm. The teams and platforms located at Fontenay-aux-Roses are gathered in a Mixed Research Unit: UMR Genetic Stability, Stem Cells and Radiation.
