Streaming a HD movie requires more electricity than its takes to produce and transport a DVD of the same film. How can connected objects improve this situation ?

This is a two-part challenge: the amount of energy consumed by networks and servers must be decreased, while deployment of connected objects must be promoted. To accomplish this, Leti has set its sights on three main initiatives:

  • Technology: New transistors (e;g. GaN-on-Si or gallium-nitride-on-silicon) underpin the topologies of innovative converters. These architectures are paving the way for highly efficient, compact and economical electronic power systems

  • Breakthrough architectures: Electric vehicles demand compact technologies that provide continuity of service and security. "All-In-One" is taking part in this revolution with a BMS (battery management system) that maximizes use of on-board energy, while ensuring motor control and battery charge

  • Energy recovery ("energy harvesters"): Leti's in-depth knowledge of materials and the laws of physics has enabled it to develop the most advanced means of ambient energy usage. Every available µJoule in the environment around a device is exploited, whether it is derived from radiation (solar, RF, IR), sources of thermal energy (flux, variation in T°) or mechanical radiation (deformation, vibration, shocks, hydraulic).
