OUR KNOW-HOW
Heat networks are generally set up by local governments to distribute heat generated at a central plant to residential, commercial, and government buildings. France’s current heat networks must be modernized if they are to meet the targets outlined in the country’s energy transition policies.
CEA Tech is helping to make heat networks more efficient, conducting research in areas like heat sources (and, especially solar thermal), cogeneration, and industrial waste-heat recovery. CEA Tech institute Liten is also investigating the heat storage systems crucial to managing heat networks fed in part by intermittent sources. Liten is developing simulation tools that will contribute to improving system-level performance and minimizing heat loss. The goal is to reduce the amount of heat production required while meeting the needs of users on a neighborhood scale.
