OUR KNOW-HOW
CEA Tech institute Liten stands out for its capacity to develop hydrometallurgical* recycling processes specific to the technologies the institute develops. The institute possesses methods for recovering materials of interest present in batteries (cobalt and nickel), photovoltaic cells (silver), fuel cells (platinum), and magnets (dysprosium) at the end of these products’ lifecycles. The materials are recovered in forms compatible with reintegration and recycling in Liten’s own technological processes. These activities are evidence of the institute’s commitment to eco-design and reducing the environmental impacts of new technologies, from design and use to end-of-lifecycle issues.
*Hydrometallurgy is a technique used to extract metals; the metal is rendered soluble so that it can be purified.
