Fuel cells

Published on 29 April 2016

OUR KNOW-HOW

Fuel cells are widely accepted as one of the best potential solutions to extend the range of battery-powered electric vehicles. CEA Tech institute Liten has been conducting low-temperature PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cell) R&D for years; these fuel cells are designed for both transportation and stationary applications.

Liten is active across the entire fuel-cell value chain (with the exception of the membrane), working to improve electrode materials, come up with more effective ways of assembling fuel-cell components, enhancing catalysts, and integrating smart capabilities into fuel-cell systems. The objectives of this research are multiple: improve system lifespans; reduce the amount of platinum (a rare, expensive metal) required; and achieve competitive total cost of ownership to ensure that fuel cells become an economically-viable alternative to current solutions.
