EMBEDDED SMART VISION FOR PEDESTRIAN DETECTION
With the ability to recognize pedestrians, Arcure’s Blaxtair® camera and detection system averts collisions between vehicles and humans on construction sites and in factories, helping prevent the 10,000 such accidents that occur each year in Europe. Exports account for twothirds of the company’s annual revenue.
Technology
Blaxtair® leverages image processing algorithms developed by List, for which the institution holds five patents. Once the camera has “learned” to recognize a human’s visual attributes, it can detect and identify a pedestrian in several tenths of a millisecond, even in difficult environments. The Blaxtair® system can be mounted onto any type of equipment, from bulldozers and excavators to forklifts, alerting the operator if a potential collision with a pedestrian is detected. This type of selective accuracy means that the technology reduces driver stress and improves safety around the machine.
Internationally, Arcure has grown significantly on major infrastructure projects (especially tunnels), mining, heavy industry, energy, and recycling. At its inception in 2009, the startup established a joint laboratory with List. It is currently developing algorithms that will process unfamiliar images for new applications in the transportation and manufacturing industries.
