During the trip of President Macron to Russia (May 24-25), François Jacq and Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, signed a strategic document related to the French-Russian partnership related to low-carbon energies.
The CEA and ROSATOM share a common approach to the development of nuclear energy, a low-carbon energy that produce electricity in a way that is advanced, reliable and, in synergy with renewable energies, contributes to meet objectives defined by the Paris agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The CEA and ROSATOM have a long-standing cooperation that encompasses various areas of expertise, from nuclear physics and development of next-generation reactor to training or skills development.
Both organizations currently assessed potential partnerships in the field of renewable energies, energy storage and energy efficiency.
François Jacq and Alexey Likhachev also co-chaired a high-level seminar dedicated to industrial cooperation in the nuclear field between Russia and France. Bringing together representatives from major french companies (EDF, Framatome, Orano, Engie, GE, Schneider Electric, Bureau Veritas…) and high-level executives from ROSATOM and its subsidiaries, this meeting did provide a broad perspective on on-going industrial cooperations. Participants also did discuss future opportunities for french companies to participate to projects implemented by ROSATOM.
This event was held as part of the assignment entrusted to the Chairperson of the CEA by the Prime Minister of the French Republic on October 2017. The Chairperson of the CEA is tasked with the mission to facilitate relations between the French nuclear industry and ROSATOM.
The Director General of ROSATOM stressed the key role of the Chairperson of the CEA regarding relationships with french industrial companies.
