How to observe the mechanisms of neuroinflammation during the development of neurodegenerative diseases? A team from the CEA's FrédéricJoliot Institute is testing tracers for PET imaging.
Evaluating the biological impact of hadrontherapy in healthy tissue upstream of a tumor is essential to assess the risk of radiation-induced sequelae. In the treatment of bone tumors, healthy articular cartilages are present in the path of the carbon ion beams. The development of 3D models has enabled IRCM's LARIA Research Team, in collaboration with IRAMIS and IBITECS (SBIGeM), to have relevant evaluation systems for these tissues.
A collaboration between researchers at IBITECS and an IRAMIS Research Team shows that proteins that bind RNA strongly adsorb on silica nanoparticles. In particular, the proteins involved in the initiation of translation are easily trapped by these nanoparticles, inhibiting the synthesis of proteins.
An in vivo, in vitro and in silico study of the Mediator of Transcriptional Regulation has shown how the function of this multiprotein complex is coordinated with another essential component of the transcription machinery, the TFIIB factor, and the architecture of the promoter. This study, led by SBIGeM, was conducted in collaboration with several other Research Teams (CNRS, CEA, INRA).
This work, stemming from a collaboration between researchers from Imperial College London and an SB2SM Research Team, resolved a long-standing ambiguity about the redox potential (Em) value of the primary quinone, QA, of the Photosystem II (PSII). In addition, the authors discovered a new and very important phenomenon for the PSII: a reversible control effect of the redox potential of QA induced by binding of bicarbonate.
A Reseach Team of the SB2SM, specialist in structural and predictive bioinformatics, collaborates with a Team from the Institute of Molecular Biology of Plants (Strasbourg) to study the mechanisms of the evolution of a metabolic pathway from a cytochrome P450 retroposition in Brassicaceae. This work shows how a gene duplication can favor the emergence of new metabolic functions, whose key residues of the active site can be identified by homology modeling.
